DESERT SCENES.-.

[ BACK TO MAIN PAINTINGS PAGE ]

Many of the following desert paintings have been created in some of my favorite locations in the Palm Springs - La Quinta area. Each painting is different, never exactly the same, and what I observe and select to paint determines the content of each particular painting. Often, the painting has to do with the color of the light and the shadows during a certain time, be it morning or afternoon. I am continually fascinated by how the apparent dull browns and grays of the desert landscape become so alive and beautiful with the changing light. The shapes and textures of the vegetation, such as a smoke tree or creosote bush also add interesting elements to the image. When the desert is in bloom, the verbena and palo verde trees are an incredibly beautiful visual experience and a delight to capture on canvas.
